A crown protects a tooth that has lost too much structure for a filling — after a large repair, a fracture or root-canal treatment — by covering it completely with a precisely made ceramic restoration. A bridge uses the same craft to close a gap, anchoring a replacement tooth to its neighbours. Both are made to match the shade and shape of your own teeth.
01
Assess and design
The tooth is examined, the right material discussed for its position and your bite, and the fee agreed before preparation starts.
02
Prepare and record
The tooth is shaped under local anaesthetic and a precise digital or physical impression is taken; a temporary protects it in the meantime.
03
Fit and refine
The finished crown or bridge is tried in, checked against your bite and adjacent teeth, adjusted, and bonded only when both you and the dentist are satisfied.
Good to know
Crowns and bridges are made individually by a dental laboratory, so there is normally a short gap between preparation and fitting. Well-maintained crowns commonly serve for many years — your hygiene routine is what protects the tooth underneath.
